Mid-America Members,
We have made it through the Return of Competitive Play for the Fall of 2021! I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone for their hard work with return to play this fall. There were many obstacles in our way and many concerns with the COVID pandemic still looming overhead. Even with that we were able to have a successful fall season. The GU Board is aware that it wasn't flawless and that there were issues. We are working to address those. The first thing I would like to do is have a mid-season “ town hall” Zoom. This is completely optional, and I do not want to take more than 1 hour, but I think it would be a good idea to hear from members. Whether it be to pass along information, ask questions, pose an idea , etc. We all experienced the effects that COVID had on Rugby locally and globally. The loss of clubs, shortage of players, coaches and referees. Perhaps the impact felt the most was that of the referee shortage. A very small group of referees did the lion share of the work as the Mid-America Referee Society experience lower than ever number of referees. With this in mind, Columbia is hosting a course Dec 4th for Level1 Referee Certification and there are more courses being planned for 2022. It is imperative that we get members to not only take these courses, but that they are active referees ! If you, or someone you know, would be a good fit as a MARRS Referee please get certified as a Rugby Referee.
Lastly, we are expecting to have more information to release concerning Nationals and Playoffs very soon. The Senior Club Council now handles the National Playoffs Competition, and they are finalizing the details. Hope to pass that information along asap! Best wishes and a Happy Holidays to everyone and their Families! Cheers, Sean Cox MId-America GU President
